FAQs
You'll love the course no matter which package you choose
Student:
How much time per week would I need for practice?
Alex:
You’ll need approximately 5 to 7 hours per week to keep up with the course at a steady pace. This includes:
  • watching the lessons and completing the analytical tasks
  • doing the drills and recording the tasks
  • *watching your coach's feedback and making corrections (if you choose a package with personal guidance)
  • taking part in short extra activities in the chat
You can always practise more if you’d like — but this amount is enough to make tangible progress without burning out or overwhelming your week. You can always adjust it to fit your schedule.
Student:
What level of English do I need?
Alex:
If you’re reading this and have made it through all the information on this page — chances are, your English is good enough!

To be more specific, a solid B1/B2 level is the minimum required. The course is entirely in English, and you’ll be working with advanced topics like intonation, connected speech, and shadowing — so you need to feel comfortable understanding instructions and practising spoken English.

If you're not sure about your level, message me and I'll help you figure it out
Student:
Do I need prior experience with pronunciation to take this course?
Alex:
Yes, it’s highly recommended that you already have some background — for example, you’ve taken a pronunciation course, studied phonetics at university, or had pronunciation-focused lessons. This course is designed as a second stage and builds on foundational knowledge of English sounds.

If you’re a complete beginner in pronunciation, the first stage on sounds would be a better starting point. And I'll be happy to see you on the next season of Stage 2 next year!
Student:
Will I get enough feedback? I'm worried I won't be able to go through with it on my own.
Alex:
Even if you choose to Flow Solo, you’ll get plenty of support and feedback throughout the course:
  • in Flow Solo chat: you’ll get regular feedback on some of your homework from Alex and the head coach Laura
  • in the main group chat: you’ll get feedback on weekly extra activities and you can always ask questions
  • in the live sessions: you’ll get feedback from Alex in real time
If you go for one of the packages with coaching, you’ll get private in-depth feedback on every task as well as personal guidance and encouragement
Student:
I've read so much about intonation but I still struggle with it... Will this course help me to finally get it?
Alex:
Let me level with you: this course isn't going to reveal any groundbreaking truths about intonation or connected speech — most of the information is out there already, in books and online. But(!) the way it’s structured, presented, and illustrated makes all the difference.

The real challenge for most learners isn’t a lack of theory — it’s being able to hear and understand the difference in tones, control their voice to produce those tones, and assess the impact it has on the meaning.

That’s exactly what the course is aimed at and why it includes so many opportunities to practise and get feedback: for you to master the skill, not just the rules
Student:
I feel like I'm tone-deaf... Do you need an ear for music to master intonation?
Alex:
It’s easier for some people than others to hear and imitate the intonation they hear. But there’s nothing wrong with you if you struggle with intonation: you just need a bit more guidance.

In my explanations I take into account different levels of voice control and offer plenty of practical tools and tips to help you get a grasp on intonation — no matter what your level is.

You’ll also get access to a special workshop with a professional vocal coach, where you’ll gain valuable insight into how the voice works and how to develop more control over it.
Student:
I'm not sure how easy it would be to apply this to real life. It's one thing when you do the exercises but having an actual conversation is a whole different story...
Alex:
The whole course is built around real-life speech. You’ll be practising common phrases people say on a daily basis (e.g. ‘Can you hear me?’; ‘I’m quite busy at the moment’) — not stiff textbook lines, like ‘Mary lives in London’

I personally created all of the examples for practice so that they reflect how people actually talk and are fun to practise. And while I agree that having a real conversation can still be challenging, you're far more likely to internalise new intonation patterns when you practise with phrases you'll genuinely use.

You’ll also work on a self-introduction and create a talk of your own because the whole idea of the course is to give you more control and flexibility to use your voice to talk about things that matter to you!
Student:
After taking a course on intonation, some people sound fake and mannered, like they're putting on a voice that isn't theirs. Is that just part of the deal or can it be avoided?
Alex:
I don’t believe in the idea of a unique British timbre or a special “placement” you need to find to sound British. I place high value on sounding natural and being yourself.

Yes, the intonation patterns of English can differ significantly from those in your mother tongue, and it may feel a little off or awkward at first. But that doesn’t mean you need to speak in an unnaturally high or low pitch, or pretend to be someone you’re not.

Working on intonation isn’t about copying someone else’s voice.
Just like the same melody can be played on different instruments and in different keys, the same intonation pattern can be expressed through different voices.

What this course will help you do is maximise the potential of your own voice — so you can sound clear, expressive, and natural as yourself.
Student:
I'm too shy to post anything in the group chats...
I feel like everyone is going to judge me.
Alex:
I totally get that. It can feel really vulnerable to share your practice — especially in front of people you don’t know yet.

My team and I care deeply about your experience on the course and do our best to ensure everyone feels comfortable and included. We do everything in our power to help every participant on their learning path, support and motivate them and boost their self-confidence. Also, I want you to know that I'll never post any videos of yours on social media without your explicit permission.

The atmosphere in the chats is always incredibly friendly and kind! You’re not alone — everyone’s on the same learning path, and most people feel just as self-conscious in the beginning.

Nobody will ever force you to share anything you’re not ready to — but in my experience, posting your practice helps you stay committed and focused, and often leads to much faster progress. So if you can push through that initial discomfort, it’s absolutely worth it.
